Frequently Asked Questions

Like retail stores, on-line merchants spend a lot of money making sure their products are being seen by consumers like you. Affiliate marketing, which is what we do, is one way that on-line merchants get their message to consumers. In fact, it’s very cost effective for them because they pay only when someone buys a product. Compare that to TV or radio advertising where they must spend a great deal of money, with no guarantee of sales resulting from it.

No!  Your on-line purchases will cost exactly what they would have cost had you bought them from the same merchant and did not make a donation to your charity.  Often, because of special promotions that we receive your cost could actually be less.

We send checks on a monthly basis.  The only exception is that we cannot send a check for less than $50.00.   When the circumstance occurs that your charity does not meet the $50.00 minimum, the balance will carry over to the next month until it meets the minimum.  At the beginning of the year, all balances from the prior year are paid out to the charity.
You might consider getting some friends to support your charity through this service as well so that the balance is always over the minimum!

It can take up to a week or ten days for a merchant to alert us to your order. In some cases it will be faster. Your profile page also shows the total amount having been generated for your charity. Get the word out to your friends and you’ll see the total growing rapidly.

We can’t think of a reason for you not to do this. You get the benefit of purchasing on-line and a portion of your order goes to your charity, with no additional effort. Further, merchants like Walmart and Bestbuy have local retail outlets near you. By having the items you ordered shipped to the store you pay no shipping cost. In many cases, the items are already in the store so they are available the same day. Think of it as you having someone go to the store, locate the items you want to purchase, put them in a bag with your name on it for easy pickup. And; a portion gets donated to your charity. It is that good!

ShopandSupportYourCharity.com performs a service for its members, and is not qualified to offer tax advice on the deductibility of any donation made by the member. This service may allow the rebate provided by the merchant to the member to meet the structural qualifications of the IRS code, so that if donor and donee are qualified, the donation may be taken by the member. The rebate (of monies paid by the member to the merchant) provided by the merchant transfers to the control of the member, and the member voluntarily determines whether or not to donate that money, and whether or not to donate it to an organization to which donations are deductible, as defined by the Internal Revenue Service under § 170. Donations resulting from activities other than purchasing are probably not deductible.

Shop and Support Your Charity negotiates rebates back from the merchants listed for sales originating from a link on our website.  We then keep 25% of the total to support the website.  The numbers that you see for the donation amount to your charity is the actual amount your charity will receive.  We feel that directing 75% to the charity of your choice is a very large percentage.  You spend no more than you would have, buying items that you would have bought anyway and a high percentage of earned commission goes to your charity.  We think that is a good deal for everyone.
